Simply Berlin

Russel Crowe plants trees
For almost thirty years Berlin has been celebrating unity. The wall stood between each and every one of us in Europe too. We built it. It had to be build so that it can be later dismantled piece by piece and we would know exactly which brick to take next.
Berliners learned their lessons, they then faced facts and understood how to forgive. But not forget. Seems this is what it takes to become the most booming capital of our times…

There are, however, phenomena within the city walls, some would describe supernatural, when physics and its laws fail. But that’s where imagination hoves into view along with superstitions, beliefs, misbeliefs, innate and learned reflexes. Smaller and bigger neighborhoods from different districts are enunciated to be haunted. No need to worry though, these spirits or ghosts or whatever you want to call them, have no intention of scaring anyone. Not at all.

Not many cities have more green areas across Europe than Berlin – it has to be said that Berlin is truly green. You can smell in the air all the freshness provided by some 400.000 trees.
Planting huge amount of trees was a deliberate act by residents back in the times of the wall. By those who suffered and mourned and not rarely died those days. Spirits of these people are believed to gather and nourish all green areas in Berlin.

The basis of prosperity (lots of green areas open to the public all year round, in this particular case) is very well maintained and advertised there. Insiders and outsiders all agree on cities are far better off with more green and less gray. And it’s calming too. Not to mention the health factor.
If you are – by any chance – planning to take part and think a bit greener, take my advice and plant a tree. Want some motivation? There is a man called Russel Crowe. He’s planted 37.000 so far…
